The former refers to occipital bone flattening in the sagittal plane (reminiscent of the headgear worn by the film character), whereas the latter refers to cranial vault flattening in the transverse plane with infolding of the skull base (reminiscent of the Scottish bonnet worn by the hero of Burns’s poem)
