Diagrammatic representation of the neuronal architecture with the neurons (orange dots) enclosed in an endoneurial sheath. The axons, Schwann cells and endoneurium are bundled together into fascicles, each of which is encompassed by a dense perineurial sheath. The epineurium is the outermost connective tissue sheath. This results in a characteristic honeycomb pattern which is identified on HRUS and MRI in transverse and axial sections respectively
