A 65-year-old woman presents with fever and dyspnoea 6 years post-mechanical aortic valve replacement and aortic root replacement for a type A aortic dissection. Blood cultures grew S. aureus, and the patient was referred for a TOE, which was equivocal. (a) Axial and (b) coronal fused 18 F-FDG PET/CT images and (c) coronal unfused 18 F-FDG PET images demonstrate intense FDG around the prosthetic aortic valve and at the aortic root (arrow) consistent with prosthetic valve endocarditis.
