The lower Mullerian subcompartment contains the uterine cervix, the upper 2/3 to 3/4 of the vagina and the subperiotneal mesometria (which contains the uterine and vaginal vascular pedicles and autonomic nerve branches, the proximal part of the uterosacral ligaments, and the rectovaginal septum). Subperitoneum mesometria include the classically described parametria, which corresponds to the connective tissue that surrounds the supravaginal uterine cervix anteriorly and laterally).
