A 28-year-old woman was admitted at 38 weeks of gestation presenting with acute abdominal pain. US showed dilatation of the right pelvicaliceal system, with no visualization of the ureter (a). Coronal MR urography shows smooth tapering of the middle third of the ureter because of the mass effect between the uterus and the adjacent retroperitoneal musculature. This finding is characteristic of physiological urinary tract dilatation (b)
