Contrast-enhanced fat-suppressed T1-weighted axial image of the hands of a 29-year-old female with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. Peritendinitis of the extensor digitorum tendons of the second digits (arrows) is associated with thickening and enhancement of the connective tissue around the tendons and the dorsal parts of the sagittal bands (arrowheads). The term “peritendinitis” seems more appropriate than “tenosynovitis” as there is no synovial sheath around the extensor tendons at the level of the metacarpophalangeal joints
