A PA radiograph of the left foot (b) shows evidence of previous surgery (white arrows) and a typical stress fracture of the left third metatarsal (white arrow). Previous surgery particularly of the feet is a risk factor for the development of stress fractures. Ultrasound is not the imaging modality of choice for the assessment of stress fractures but can incidentally show stress fractures
