The axial images of the fractures could be mistaken for an aggressive destructive process (a, arrows) showing an apparent expansile bone lesion anterior to the acetabulum. However a volume-rendered image (b) of the pelvis shows multiple and partly symmetrical fractures typical for severe insufficiency fractures. Fractures of the iliac blades, the right os pubis and left pubic rami can be seen (see arrows). The axial images in isolation may be difficult to interpret; 3D reformats and volume rendering help in image interpretation
